Meditation for Self Empowerment: Discover & Become your Authentic Self

Many people fall into the trap of doubting just how magnificent we really are. But when we doubt ourselves, we may also begin to believe the negative thoughts that creep into our minds. When we allow doubt and negativity to overshadow us, we lose ourselves. We no longer embody all of our greatness, and rather than becoming our most authentic selves, we are reduced to a shadow of what could be.

Imagine how much our lives would change if we were able to consciously move past and release those doubts, fears, and negativity. Imagine your greatest self rising and truly being authentic to who you are. Hold on to that thought and imagine it as a reality. The truth is, the key to discovering and becoming our authentic selves is right at our fingertips. Join us as we explore how meditation for self-empowerment can help begin the journey toward discovering and becoming our greatest selves.

What Does it Mean to be Authentic?

Authenticity is a concept that many, if not all, of us, struggle with. To be authentic means to feel at home in who you are and in your body. When you are authentic, you feel true to your values, ideals, and yourself.

The confidence that comes from being authentic is not something we can find in the world around us, but something we can only find within. Once we explore ourselves and do the work to find out who we really are and what we want out of life, we can move past a lot of negativity, doubt, and external pressures.

Many of us struggle to find our authentic selves because of fear. There may be fear of how others will perceive us. There may be a fear of changing how we perceive others. And sometimes, there is simply a fear of doing what our hearts have been telling us to do our entire lives because of how we are socialized to operate in this world.

The idea of finding your authentic self can be exciting and scary. But this important and unending journey can show us so much about ourselves and those around us. By learning to let go, we allow ourselves to be ourselves – that includes our strengths, vulnerabilities, ideals, dreams, goals, and fears. We must embrace all of these as part of who we are.

Meditation for Self-Empowerment

Meditation is a powerful tool for self-empowerment. When we meditate, we have the opportunity to decenter distractions and look deep within. This can help strip away the doubt, hurt, chatter, and fear that holds us back. By looking within, we can focus on, and release, these feelings with love, intuition, creativity, and inner peace.

There are several ways you can focus your meditation practice on self-empowerment and finding your authentic self. Below, we explore some of the ways that meditation can help you:

Stress Reduction

The stresses of everyday life can quickly take over our thoughts and mind. Through meditation, we can learn how to control the way we allow those thoughts to behave, and how we respond. We can learn to let those thoughts exist without actively engaging them. This is a powerful tool for reducing stress, which allows us to focus on letting our best selves shine through.

Not only can meditation reduce our stress, but in the process, it helps us declutter and open our minds. This allows us to focus our thoughts and energy on our health and mental wellness. It allows us to focus on the areas of our lives that we want to change, grow, improve, or let go of. This is a perfect opportunity to set intentions and learn more about ourselves and who we want to be.

Tune Out our Inner Critic

Meditation can also help us tune out our inner critics that manifest as judgmental thoughts about ourselves and how we feel others perceive us. By allowing ourselves to sit with and move through our negativity, doubt, and judgment, we can create more space for feelings of compassion, love, and oneness. This increases our mindset for acceptance, especially acceptance of ourselves – our true, authentic selves.

Over time, we may find that the meditative mindset can trickle into our everyday lives through active mindfulness practice. When we notice our inner critic starting to shift our thoughts and becoming unnecessarily judgmental toward ourselves, rather than engaging with the thought or accepting our inner critic’s perception of ourselves, we can address our critics and send them on their way. The more we accept their judgmental thoughts and reactions as responses not stemming from our authentic, highest selves, the more we can manifest love for the full range of our experiences and reactions and continue living in our truth, not distorted realities.

Increase Creativity

Have you ever noticed how when your mind is overwhelmed it can be difficult to focus or be creative?  Having an overcrowded mind can make you feel lost and unfulfilled amongst the noise.

By practicing meditation and focusing your thoughts, you can help enter a mindset that is open to possibility and creativity. You can quiet the noise and just enjoy being yourself in all your creative genius. When you are able to let your natural creativity flow, you feel more fulfilled and true to who you are. That is part of being your authentic self.

Better Alignment with Passions, Values, and Purpose

As you practice meditating, opening your heart and mind will also allow you to listen to your intuition and true desires more closely. You will find that you are better tuned in to tap into your innate and unique passions, values, and purpose. These are the traits that are completely unique to you and will shine as you empower yourself and find authenticity.

Feel Authentic Happiness

As we clear out the old ego and allow our mind, heart, and soul to focus on our authentic selves, we will also begin to experience authentic happiness. This is happiness that requires nothing other than being ourselves. It is a natural state of bliss that only comes by clearing out the noise and distractions in our minds and allowing ourselves to live in the moment. This is a beautiful experience that can help you enjoy your life with an authentic sense of self and authentic happiness. Happiness that only you can generate for yourself.

How to Begin Your Meditation for Self-Empowerment Journey

If you want to try meditation for self-empowerment, you are already on your way! The next thing you need to do is determine how you want to begin your journey. Many people try different options to find what works best for them. The goal of meditation is to enter a relaxed yet focused state of mind, so you should try finding a practice, location, and process that works best for your needs.

No matter how you choose to practice, there are a few things that are generally helpful as you find your way. These include:

  • Find a place to meditate where you won’t be disturbed for at least 10 minutes.

  • Find a comfortable position that allows you to relax. This can be on the floor, on a chair, or even laying down.

  • Choose whether you want music or background noise, or if you prefer total silence.

  • Decide if you need/want a mantra to help you clear your thoughts and focus.

  • Identify what helps you focus and what you find distracting in your environment.

These basic tools can help you begin your meditation journey, no matter where you are.
